An excursion around Shiogama Bay is particularly popular among tourists. Ferries leaving from the Marine Gate complex stop off at Katsurashima, Nonoshima, Sabusawa and Hohjima Island. All 4 islands can be explored on foot. The Urato islands have been inhabited for hundreds of years and most residents are from families traditionally involved in fishing industries. The islands' residents are proud of their traditions and heritage and the unique and healthy life-style they are striving to preserve on these Bay islands. In spring, visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery with a variety of flowers in bloom. The Bay offers excellent facilities for marine sports such as fishing, swimming and water skiing. Pensions and tourist homes are available at reasonable prices.
